Student Killed By Militants In Baramulla

Srinagar: A student of 12th standard was killed in a militancy related incident in Baramulla district. According to a police spokesman, militants during the intervening night of November 25 and 26 intruded into the house of Mohammad Afzal Mir at Kangroosa-Rafiabad in Baramulla and dragged out his son Zahoor Ahmad Mir and fired upon him. Zahoor, a 12th class student was killed on the spot and the militants managed to flee from this place. The reasons behind the killing were not immediately known. According to the reports a dog was killed in an IED blast near Sub-District Hospital, Sopore. The incident occured when the militants tied the IED with the dog in order to target the 112 BN of BSF but the IED exploded near the security forces camp. Meanwhile, last night unidentified gunmen fired upon the patrolling party of 30 RR at Hadipora-Handwara in Kupwara district but no one was injured in the firing incident. The whole area was cordoned off by the security forces but no arrests were made. A major tragedy was averted when the security forces defused an IED near the Lower Munda post at Qazigund. Had the IED exploded it would have caused havoc in the entire area. Security forces claimed that they recovered two hand grenades from a hay at Kreeri in Baramulla district. In a similar raid two hand grenades and ammunition were recovered from a militant hideout in Anantnag district.
