Two Militants Killed, Corporator's Father-in-law Shot Dead

Srinagar: The father-in-law of a woman corporator from Kulgam was killed while another candidate who unsuccesfully contested municipal elections in the city here succumbed to his injuries, 12 days after he was fired at by militants. Security Forces also claimed to have killed two militants in an encounter at a Handwara village. Ghulam Hassan Laway, a CPI(M) activist and father in law of a woman corporator Shameema from Kulgam was gunned down by militants last evening. He was a resident of Cholgam village. Reports said militants approached the family and said they were looking for Shameema. She was not present there and the gunmen later shot Laway on his head, killing him on the spot. CPI(M) state secretary Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami has condemned his killing. In a separate incident, Shiekh Mohammad Amin of Babapora in Zoonimar here succumbed to his injuries at SKIMS here. Amin had unsuccesfully contested elections as an independent candidate and he was critically injured when militants opened fire at him on February 4. He was struggling for his life at SKIMS where he died today. A defence spokesman here claimed that security forces killed two militants in an encounter at Dalri in Handwara. He said an encounter ensued in the afternoon and two unidentified militants were killed. Meanwhile, CRPF men from 75 Bn today recovered arms and ammunition from house of a Kashmiri Pandit migrant at Habba Kadal.
