Jammu-Srinagar highway reopened

Jammu: The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, which was closed for traffic yesterday, reopened this morning after the weather improvedand landslips were cleared. Over 300 Army vehicles and 100 passenger vehicles stranded on the Ramban-Banihal stretch of the Doda district got a green signal to move ahead. Talking to The Hindu here, theSuperintendent of Police (Banihal-Ramban), Gareeb Dass, said 'there were no rains today though for brief intervals we did close the highway as there were shooting stones from the heights on the highway. We haveregulated the traffic to avoid congestion.' The Inspector-General of Police (Traffic), P.L. Gupta said priority would be given to the vehicles carrying essential goods.There was a fresh landslide at Samroli area of Udhampur this evening on the National Highway 1A and traffic was stranded for over five hours.
