Musharraf Envisions 'Soft Border' In Kashmir
14 April 2005
Islamabad: Pakistan's President said yesterday the peace process with India was 'fairly irreversible' and called the historic opening of a bus route between Indian and Pakistani Kashmir the first step toward a 'soft border' in the divided Himalayan territory. But in an interview aired on the Indian television network NDTV ahead of a weekend visit to New Delhi, General Pervez Musharraf said Pakistan would not accept the Line of Control military boundary splitting the region as a final solution to the long-standing disagreement over Kashmir. 'That [the bus] really is the first step to converting into a soft border. We've suggested the opening of more routes. That's what a soft border implies,' he said.
