The militants, however, were challenged by the troops and asked to lay down their arms, but they retaliated ensuing an encounter, which was on till the filing of this report. Defense spokesman, Col V K Batra said the troops have extended their search to an area of 6 km in Gurez. 'So far, we don't have reports of any militant casualty. The operation is taking time as militants are scattered in small groups at an altitude of 14,000 feet and giving resistance,' he said. The spokesman said troops had laid siege to several groups of militants at different places at glacial heights and forest area. The operation started on Tuesday morning after troops got a specific information about the infiltration,' said Batra, adding that harsh weather conditions and rugged terrain was hampering the operation. Army claims that 50 militants have been killed in these infiltration bids.
