Jammu: About 40 infiltration attempts were made by the terrorists with the help of Pakistani Army personnel in the State of Jammu and Kashmir for the last three months and the situation is likely to assume alarming proportion in the coming months. Defence sources said that about 40 infiltrations attempts were made by the terrorists from April 22, 2005 till July 15 and all were successfully thwarted by security forces. A total of 112 terrorists were eliminated by the troops during the period thereby giving a major set-back to the designs of the mentors of the terrorists on the other side of the border. 'In Kashmir valley, 24 infiltration bids were made by the terrorists from April till date and a total of 82 militants got killed in these attempts', the sources said and added that similarly in South of Pir Panjal range, 16 attempts were made in which 36 ultras got killed. The killing of 40 infiltrating militants in encounters with the Army close to Line of Control (LoC) in last week is being seen as heaviest infiltration activity since November 26, 2003 cease-fire between India and Pakistan, defence sources said. Since the Pir Panchal ranges remain snow-capped from November to April, the terrorists can not make attempts to sneak into this side of border but with the most passes getting rid of snow their bids to do so increase multifold. 'The coming three months are all set to be crucial to counter infiltrations as almost all the routes are cleared of snow and large number of terrorists are waiting at the launching pads in Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK)', the sources said. The recent infiltration bids in Gurez, Uri, Sunderbani, Mendhar, Akhnoor and Keran are the indications of a large plan from across the border, they said and added that intelligence agencies have provided information about the launching pads of Daramsal, Pattan, Badayan Gopalpur, Rawalakote, Mangu, Kotli and Jandrote. To cope with the likely emerging situation, the troops have stepped up vigil all along the borders with Pakistan and new electronic gadgets are being used to keep vigil on infiltrating routes, the sources said and added that even future prospective planning is being done especially after recent spurt in infiltration bids. They said that it was due to the new methodology that Army suffered less damages as compared to past while foiling recent infiltration bids and added that now thrust is being given on trapping the infiltrators and not showing any hurry while carrying out operations. It was due to the deliberate operations that there were casualties from this side also, the sources further said. The sources, however, ruled out that recent infiltration bids were fall out of the de-induction of the troops and said that the troops de-induction was done keeping in view the ground situation which is being reviewed periodically after watching the activities of the terrorists.
