100 Kg RDX Seized
27 July 2005
Srinagar: Budgam police on Tuesday averted a major tragedy when they seized an explosive-laden car driven by a suspected militant on the Srinagar- Gulmarg road. Two of the militant's accomplices managed to escape. Senior Superintendent of Police Budgam Syed Ahfadul Mujtaba told The Hindu that a police patrol at Mazhama village signalled a speeding car on its way to Narbal to stop. 'Two persons who were carrying pistols jumped out of the vehicle and managed to escape,' he said, adding that the driver sped away but the police chased him on a motorcycle and he was captured. On a search of the car, RDX weighing 100 kg was found. Mr. Mujtaba said two hand grenades and a wireless set were also recovered. The SSP said the vehicle belonged to a civilian in Beerwah and he had reported that his car had been stolen on July 21. Militants had put a fake Delhi registration number though it was a Srinagar-registered car.
