New Delhi: Italy has eased travel restrictions on its nationals for visiting Jammu and Kashmir as progress on the ground has made it possible for opening up of the region for tourism, the Italian Embassy here said Friday . The decision was taken following the visit of Italian Ambassador in New Delhi, Antonio Armelini, to the state in July. 'As a followup to Italian Ambassador Antonio Armlini's visit to Jammu and Kashmir in July, the Embassy of Italy in New Delhi has decided to ease travel restrictions to Jammu and Kashmir,' a statement issued by the Italian embassy said. The Embassy however, advised against travel only to rural areas and areas contiguous to the Line of Control (LOC) with Pakistan . The statement said that in a clear improvement from the previous advice that recommended avoidance of all travel to Jammu and Kashmir, travel to Srinagar is advised only if essential. Bearing in mind security in the area, the travel advice will hold, with the exception of Ladakh, the statement added . During his visit to the state, the Italian Ambassador had, during his discussions with Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed, touched upon the subject . The travel advice would, however, remain under constant review, the statement said .
