Woman Suicide Bomber Killed In Blast

Srinagar: A woman was blown to pieces when an improvised explosive device she was suspected to be carrying exploded in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir this morning. The woman was passing through a by-lane in Awantipora, 30 kms from here on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, when the explosion took place blowing her into pieces, official sources said here. They said several residential house including one belonging to former Special Secretary Ghulam Mohammad Bhat suffered damages in the explosion. Source said the target seemed to be the National Highway which is crowded with relief convoys for quake affected areas. The site of the explosion, just few meters from the National Highway, was immediately sealed by police and security forces, the sources said. In a phone call to a local news agency, a person claiming to be the spokesman of Pakistan-based Jaish-e- Mohammad said that the woman, who he identified as Hafsa, had blown up an army vehicle in a suicide attack. However, official sources said none of the security vehicles were passing the area when the explosion took place.
