Three Ultras Among 10 Killed In J&K

Srinagar: Ten people, including five security personnel and three militants, were killed and two jawans injured as Army foiled an exfiltration bid in Jammu and Kashmir since last night, official sources said today. In a pre-dawn attack, a group of militants opened fire on an Army post at village Wadwal in Kandi area of north Kashmir's Kupwara district today, killing three soldiers and wounding another, the sources said. However, the ultras fled the scene in the face of retaliation by the troops, the sources said. Militants also struck Amirakadal area in the heart of Srinagar and shot dead a sub- inspector of Central Reserve Police Force while also injuring a jawan, the sources said. Pistol-borne militants shot at the two personnel from point-blank range in the busy Gonikhan market in Amirakadal. SI Mittai Lal was killed and constable Roop Kishore was seriously injured in the shooting, the sources said. A defence spokesman said three militants were killed when Army troops foiled an exfiltration attempt by them near the Line of Control in Keran sector of Kupwara district today. The militants were trying to exfiltrate to other side of the LoC when they were confronted by the troops in Keran sector and asked to surrender. The ultras opened fire and in the ensuing encounter, all the three exfiltrators were killed. A special police officer, Gulzar Ahmad, was killed in an encounter with militants at Dharam-Gool in Udhampur district today, a police spokesman said. The spokesman said Hizbul Mujahideen militants abducted and later killed one Mohammad Hussain, a resident of Chilli at Lakhan Dhar area of Doda district. Hussain was abducted by militants from his house on June 15 and his body was recovered from Lakhan Dhar area last night, the spokesman said. Police recovered the body of an unidentified person from Khurinar in Rajouri district today, the sources said. The spokesman said a scrap dealer Irshad Ahmad Dar was injured when militants hurled a grenade towards his shop at Batmaloo bus stand in Srinagar this afternoon. Militants also shot at and injured one Mohammad Shafi Bhat outside his house at Ukai in Kulgam area of Anantnag district, the sources said.
