Annan Visits Muzaffarabad
18 November 2005
Muzaffarabad: United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan visited the earthquake hit Muzaffarabad town with Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf today. Amid high security, Annan and Musharraf heard briefings and visited tent camps housing the quake survivors. Appealing to governments, the private sector and individual donors to contribute, Annan said the UN needed more resources for recovery and reconstruction. The Secretary-General is the highest-profile leader scheduled to attend Saturday's pledging conference in Islamabad. Musharraf has appealed for over $5 billion in reconstruction and relief aid, and the UN is stressing the need for more financial support to sustain its emergency relief effort through the winter.
