Five Militants Among Seven Killed In J&K

Srinagar: Five militants and an army man were among seven persons killed in Jammu and Kashmir since last night, official sources said here today. Three Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants were killed in an encounter at Pandach in Soura area of the city late last night, the sources said. The gunbattle broke out around 11.00 p.M. When security forces challenged three militants, who opened fire at them, the sources said, adding the security forces retaliated killing three LeT ultras, believed to be foreign nationals. The identity of slain militants was being ascertained, they said. In another encounter, security forces shot dead a militant at Wanilu village in Tangmarg area of Baramulla district, the sources said. Another militant was killed in an encounter at Zainapora village in Shopian area of Pulwama district, they said. Militants shot dead a jawan of territorial army, Mohammad Maqbool Shaikh, at Vilgam in Handwara area of Kupwara district, the sources said. The area has been cordoned off and a hunt launched to nab ultras. Militants barged into the house of a teacher Shabir Ahmad and shot him dead at Pattan in Baramulla district last night, the sources added.
