5 Hurt As J-K Police Teargas Protesters

New Delhi: At least five persons were injured when police lathicharged and teargassed protestors demonstrating against the India visit of US President George W Bush in Budgam district of J-K on Thursday, official sources said. Raising anti-Bush slogans, the protestors belonging to Shia community converged at Chattergam to take out a procession to the local office of UN Military Observers Group for India and Pakistan (unmogip) at Sonawar, the sources said. When they were prevented by the policemen, the protestors started pelting stones on them. The police then resorted to a lathicharge and lobbed tear gas shells, in which five persons were injured, the sources added.
