About the arrested militants, police sources said that they were trained in detonating Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). Pointing out that the arrested militants were involved in various explosions, Senior Superintendent of Police, Srinagar, Munir Khan told ENS that they have solved many cases, including the flyover blast. 'We are working on leads provided by the arrested militants and many more arrests are likely,' he added. Meanwhile, in a fierce gun battle between militants and a joint party of army and police, two militants were killed in the frontier district of Kupwara. Police said that the soldiers of 30 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and state police, on a specific tip off about the presence of militants, laid siege around the Shahnagri village of Handwara. As the soldiers were laying the siege, the militants opened indiscriminate fire and tried to break the cordon. The army returned the fire and in the ensuing encounter, two militants were killed. The slain militants have been identified as Farooq Ahmad Chopan and Shabir Ahmad Rather. Police has also claimed to have recovered some arms and ammunition from their possession including two AK rifles, two magazines, a wireless set and a UBGL.
