HUJI Commander Surrenders

Srinagar: A 'tehsil commander' of Harkat-ul-Jehad Islami (HUJI) today surrendered before the troops of Rashtriya Rifles and police in Kishtwar tehsil of Doda district while a suspected militant was arrested in Poonch and a Pakistani was captured in Mendhar. Two SPOs were injured in a blast at Thathri. Official sources said a top HUJI militant Abdul Majid Bhat alias Azhar son of Ali Bhat R-o Kuchhal surrendered before troops of 11 Rashtriya Rifles and police at Kukarwagan near Mughal Maidan in Kishtwar tehsil of Doda district today. He handed over one AK rifle, three magazines, 67 rounds, one Chinese grenade and one pouch at the time of surrender, the sources said. A locally trained militant, Bhat was active since 2002 and had his area of operation mainly in pockets of Kishtwar tehsil. He had recently been elevated as 'tehsil commander' of the outfit. With today's surrender, a total of 23 militants have laid down arms before Army and police in Doda district this year. Majority of them belonged to Hizbul Mujahideen outfit. Last month, Army had made inroads into the LeT outfit when two of its cadre had surrendered before security forces. However, this is the first HUJI surrender in Doda this year. An IED went off when a group of SPOs were carrying out a search operation at Revsar, Thathri in Doda district this afternoon. They have been identified as Amrik Singh (SPO No. 492) and Rial Singh (SPO No. 472). Injured SPOs have been hospitalised. Enforcement of security forces and police have been rushed to the spot to launch searches for the militants involved in triggering the blast. The SPOs were posted with STF Gandoh. A suspected militant Mohd Farooq son of Mohd Hussain R-o Mora Sarani was arrested by security forces from village Darkeri in Samrot area of Surakote tehsil in Poonch district this morning. He has been taken into custody for questioning. A Pakistani national was arrested by Army when he crossed over to the Indian territory from near Dabby Army post in Mendhar tehsil of Poonch at 9 pm last night. He has been identified as Gul Feroz son of Mohd Khan R-o Nikial, Pakistan. Sources said Pakistan army today requested a flag meeting for repatriation of the youth. However, Indian Army didn't agree for an immediate repatriation as it wanted the youth to be questioned first, they added. Two Myanmar nationals were arrested by security forces from forward village of Narsinghpura in Akhnoor sector today when they were trying to exfiltrate to Pakistan. Rs 35 were recovered from their possession.
