Militant killed, 5 surrender

Srinagar: A militant was killed in an IED blast in Kupwara today, while as a grenade explosion rocked Khanyar. Five militants of Harkat-ul-Jehadi Islami surrendered before army in Uri. According to details, militants lobbed a grenade towards a security picket in Khanyar in downtown Srinagar early this evening. Sources said that no damage was done due to the explosion but an electric transformer was dented. A militant was killed in an IED explosion last night. Sources said that an unidentified militant was killed when the IED he was carrying went off accidentally in the forests of Khimriyal and Shimriyal range. Meanwhile, five militants surrendered in Uri today. Reliable sources told the EXCELSIOR that five militants belonging to Harkat-ul-Jehadi Islami (HUJI) surrendered before Army units in Uri today along with the arms and ammunition. The surrendered militants have been handed over to police, sources said. In recent months around 40-45 militants have surrendered before the Army in Uri sector.
