Hizb Militant Killed In J&K

Srinagar: A Hizbul Mujahideen militant was killed and a youth injured in separate incidents, while security forces recovered a big cache of arms and ammunition from a hideout in Jammu and Kashmir since Tuesday night, a police spokesman said on Wednesday. Acting on a tip off, security forces conducted a search operation at village sumber in Doda district to flush out hiding militants on Tuesday, the spokesman said. He said the militants opened fire on the search party and in the ensuing gunbattle a militant affiliated with hizbul mujahideen was killed. An AK rifle, four magazines, 87 rounds, two hand grenades, a wireless set and a mobile phone were recovered from the deceased militant, the spokesman said. He said militants shot at and injured a youth identified as Shamim Ahmad, a resident of fatehkadal, at bishember nagar in khanyar locality of downtown Srinagar on Wednesday afternoon. In another operation, the spokesman said security forces recovered six improvised explosive devices, a bolt action rifle with two magazines, 20 rounds, a pistol, 304 ak rounds, a wireless set, a battery and a very high frequency trans- receiver from a militant hideout during search operations at lahan near sona gali in mendhar sector of poonch district on Tuesday.
