Three LeT Men Killed In Encounter

Srinagar: A nightlong clash between militants and security forces in the Kangan belt of Srinagar ended on Wednesday, leaving three militants and three soldiers dead. Two houses were also destroyed in the gunfight. According to sources, it all started at around 10.30 p.m. on Tuesday when troops of the 24-RR and Special Operations Group personnel cracked down on a militant hideout in Hayen Palpora near Kangan. The militants opened fire on the raiding troops, leading to a fierce encounter. The exchange of firing continued till Wednesday morning. Two jawans were also injured. The two homes in which the militants were hiding caught fire during the clashes, and were razed to the ground. The police said the bodies of the dead militants were recovered from the debris. They said two of them were identified as Pakistani Lashkar-e-Tayyeba cadre while the third was a local recruit. In a separate clash, security forces shot dead Sajjad Ahmad, a Pakistani militant belonging to the LeT, at Garoora in Bandipora belt of northern Baramullah district.
