3 militants shot dead in Rajouri, Bhadarwah

Srinagar: Three top militants including a 'deputy district commander' of Hizbul Mujahideen were gunned down by Army and police in two separate encounter at Darhal in Rajouri and Bhadarwah in Doda districts since last night. In another incident, an Over Ground Worker (OGW) of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) was shot dead by the militants at Dashnan in Doda this morning. A joint team of police, SOG and SSG chased two militants at Hill Top in Darhal area of Rajouri district early this morning after spotting their movement, SSP Rajouri Farooq Khan, who supervised the operation, said. He said the militants, on observing the movement of police and security forces, took shelter into the house of a civilian Abdul Rashid son of Mohd Amin at Hill Top. They entered a cow shed and lobbed grenades on police and security personnel. They also opened firing with an AK rifle. The police personnel retaliated. Exchange of firing between the two sides continued for one hour in which both the militants were gunned down. Two cattle of Abdul Rashid were also killed in the firing. Police or security forces didn't suffer any loss of life in the gun- battle. Bodies of slain militants have been recovered from the spot. They were identified as Mohd Ikhlaq son of Chandi R-o Morha Koteranka and Ansar Pathan alias DJ, a Pakistani. They were affiliated with Hizb-e-Islami outfit, official sources said. Recoveries made from the scene of encounter included one AK-56 rifle, two magazines, one hand grenade, one I Com radio set, four AK rounds and Rs 4,000 in Indian currency. A joint team of 4 Rashtriya Rifles, 78 CRPF and Bhadarwah police launched a search operation at Shirekhi in Bhadarwah tehsil of Doda district last night following an information about the presence of a top militant of Hizbul Mujahideen outfit in the area, SSP Doda Manohar Singh said. He said a contact was established with the militants at 10 pm and in one and a half hour gun-fighting, the militant was eliminated. He has been identified as Tariq Usman alias Hamza (set code Wafadar), a resident of Dandi, Bhadarwah. He was a 'deputy district commander' of Hizbul Mujahideen outfit. Recoveries made from his possession were one AK- 47 rifle, three magazines, seven rounds, one hand grenade, one Airtel SIM card, one HM letter pad and some incriminating documents. Slain militant was one of the longest surviving militants in Bhadarwah. He was active for last eight years. His killing has given a severe setback to Hizbul outfit in Bhadarwah. Police party in the operation was led by Sub Inspector Shiv Krishan, Incharge Police Picket, Sartingal. An OGW of LeT and Al Jehad, Saif-ud-Din son of Ghulam Ali Rather was shot dead by the militants in his house when he was taking bath in an open space at Dimfa Dhar in Dashnan area of Doda district. The militants escaped after the killing.
