172 Independent candidates contesting in AJK polls

Muzaffarabad: Nearly 172 Independent candidates are actively taking part in July 11 elections . According to the statistics there are 18,39,467 registered voters in 29 constituencies of Azad Kashmir territory . There are 41 seats for Legislative Assembly (LA), 40 for Muslim Conference (MC), 36 for PPP AJK, 37 for People Muslim League, 33 of MMA, 23 seats for Muthahida Qaumi Movement whereas four each candidates of Jammu and Kashmir People Party, Awami Tehreek, Sunni Tehreek, Pakistan JUI Jammu and Kashmir, Muthahida Kashmir People National Party, All Jammu and Kashmir Awami Conference, Kashmir Freedom Movement while one each of Mahaz Rai Shumar, PPP Shaheed Bhutto Group, Kashmir Labour Party and Liberation Front respectively. It is pertinent to mention that AJK Election Commission under the instructions of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) has promised to hold free, fair and transparent July 11 elections by implementing code of conduct and election rules applicable on all the contesting candidates and their supports . In the meantime, Muslim Conference (MC), Pakistan People Party Azad Kashmir and People Muslim League are expected to have a tough fight in the elections.
