Srinagar: Militants of the outlawed Hizb-ul-Mujahideen took three civilians hostage after shooting dead a jawan and injuring two others during a fierce gunfight in a forested stretch in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said. Three civilians were taken hostage by two Hizb militants who demanded a safe passage from the area in Shirpora-Yaripora of Anantnag district on Monday morning, they said. Security forces were able to secure the release of one of the hostage while efforts were on to rescue the other two as well. During the initial gunfight, one security jawan was killed and two others sustained injuries, they said. Since the area is full of thick forest cover, security forces are facing difficulty in proceeding to the actual location of the militants, they said. Further details of the incident are awaited.
