Police recovered three High Explosive (HE) grenades during a search operation at Tanda in Akhnoor tehsil. SSP Doda Manohar Singh said a police party along with security forces and CRPF launched a search operation at village Majar under the jurisdiction of Chatroo police station in Doda district in early hours of this morning after developing an information that a top Hizbul Mujahideen militant Mohd Imran alias Furkan son of Ghulam Ali R-o Rikna, Palmar was shifting his hide-out accompanied by his two associates. Police personnel maintained a cordon in the village till 9 am when a contact was established with the militants. All three ultras took shelter in an abandoned dhok and opened firing on the police and security personnel, who retaliated. Exchange of firing continued for two hours in which Furkan was killed while his two colleagues managed to escape. Police parties have launched a search operation in surrounding forests to eliminate the two absconding militants. One AK rifle, one magazine, ammunition and incriminating documents were recovered from the scene of encounter. Furkan's killing was a big blow to Hizbul Mujahideen outfit. Furkan was operating in Kishtwar, Chatroo, Marwah, Dachhan and Warwan areas for last three years and was involved in a series of militant activities. He was involved in attacks on security forces, police patrols and civilian killings besides lobbying grenades. About six months back, his rank had been upgraded as 'district commander' by the Hizbul Mujahideen commanders. Police or security forces didn't suffer any casualties in the operation. Militants detonated an explosive device outside a religious place at Thathri last night. There were no casualties or damage in the explosion. Police parties rushed to the site of blast and cordoned off the area. A search operation has been launched. Police today recovered three HE36 grenades and one antenna of wireless set during a search operation at village Sami in Tanda area of Akhnoor tehsil. Search operation, led by Additional SP Jammu Rajinder Gupta and Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Akhnoor Ashok Sharma, was still on with police looking for militants and more recoveries. The grenades, according to police sources, had been concealed in a bag and kept along a Nullah at village Sami.
