I-Day celebrated with patriotic fervour

Srinagar: The 60th Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and gaiety across Kashmir. Reports received from the Valley and Ladakh stated that large number people participated in the functions organized to mark the day. Contingents of JKP,JKAP, CRPF, BSF, IRP, Home Guards, Fire and Emergency Services, Forest Protection Force and school children took part in March past at all venues of celebration . At Baramulla, Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Biag hoisted the National flag at the main function. The day was also celebrated in other parts of the district with great enthusiasm which include Uri, Sopore, Pattan, Sonawari and Tangmarg . At Kupwara Minister for Haj and Auqaf, Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed unfurled the National Flag and took salute at the march-past. Addressing the gathering after hoisting the National Flag, Peerzada, recalled the sacrifices made by leaders of freedom struggle and urged upon the people to strengthen the democratic values and preserve the hard won freedom. He, however, warned the people against the elements who are adamant to hurt the democratic fabric in Jammu and Kashmir and called upon them to fight back such forces. Referring to liberal funding from the centre for reconstruction of the State, Peerzada said that the Central leadership want to see Jammu and Kashmir embarking upon the path of progress and prosperity. He said he is quite hope full that the sincere efforts of UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and able stewardship of Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad would steer the state towards new heights . In Budgam district, Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Hakeeem Mohammed Yaseen unfurled the National Flag and took salute at the march past at sports stadium. Addressing the function, Hakeem Mohammed Yaseen while highlighting the importance of the day called upon the people to work with dedication to safeguard the hard earned Independence. He said there is a great need to fight back the elements who are hell bent to disturb the peaceful atmosphere in the country. At Anantnag, Minister for Agriculture Abdul Aziz Zargar hoisted the National flag at main function held at Degree College and took salute at the march past presented by contingents of CRPF, IRP, JKP, Auxiliary Police, Home Guard, Fire and Emergency services, NCC and School Children. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister called upon people to extend their full cooperation to Coalition Government in massive development programme initiated in the State. He also urged upon them to extend their full support to present government in its endveaours for restoring lasting peace in the State. Minister for Housing and Urban Development, Tariq Hameed Qarra hoisted the National Flag at the main function in Pulwama. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister congratulated the people on the Independence Day while recalling the sacrifices made by national leader for attaining freedom. Referring those responsible for violence in J&K, he said that everybody has the right to express his views and use of force has no place in a democratic setup. One can express his opinion and there is no ban on it, he further said that development is possible only when there is peace. Similar function was held at Shopian where MLA Hassan Khan hoisted the National Flag. At Kargil Chief Executive Councillor LAHDC Haji Asgar Ali Karbalaei unfurled the National Flag and took salute. Speaking at the function held at Biamathung playground to the Haji Karbalaei threw light on the importance of the day and paid rich tributes to great national leaders who played a pivotal role to gain freedom from British rule. Referring to recent flood that lashed the Kargil causing heavy damages to lives and properties in the district, Haji Karbalaei assured to the flood victims that all possible help and assistance would be taken to for their rehabilitation. On the occasion, Haji Karbalaei also highlighted various developmental schemes taken in hand for over all development of the district. In Leh district the main function was held at Polo-ground where the Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC, Leh Tsering Dorje hoisted the National Flag. While highlighting the importance of the day, Mr Dorje recalled the great sacrifices given by national leaders in attaining the independence by throwing away foreign rulers. Referring to the recent floods that lashed some parts of Leh, Mr Dorje said that the Hill Council is committed to provide adequate relief to the victims of the flood. Similar functions were also held at Sub-Division Drass, sub-division Zanskar and block headquarter of Sankoo and Chiktan. In Bandipora, MLA Usman Majid unfurled the tricolor and took salute on the march past. In his address he stressed the need for peaceful and conducive atmosphere in the State for speedy progress and develop.
