Five Militants Killed In J&K Encounters

Srinagar: Five militants were killed in two separate encounters in Baramulla and Pulwama districts of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, officials said. Four militants were killed in a gunbattle with security forces at Lachipora in Uri sector along the Line of Control on Thursday, IGP, Kashmir, S M Sahai said here. He said that it was not immediately known whether militants were infiltrating into the valley or exfiltrating into Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The identity and group of affiliation of militants were being ascertained, he added. A Laskhar-e-Taiba militant, a Pakistani national, was killed in another encounter at Chitragam in Shopian area of Pulwama district, a defence spokesman said. Meanwhile, militants injured a civilian Abdul Majid Dar when he was coming out of a local mosque after offering prayers at Tulkhan-Bijbehara in Anantnag district on Wednesday night, official sources said. The sources said militants also hurled a grenade at Chini Chowk in Anantnag district on Wednesday night, causing injuries to two persons, including a policeman, who were hospitalised. Militants hurled a grenade on a security patrol at Ramgarh in Baramulla district town on Wednesday night, but nobody was hurt in the incident, the sources added.
