Jammu: A consensus exists in Jammu and Kashmir among the political class for a ceasefire in the month of Ramzan which starts in the last week of this month. Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad recently made a ceasefire offer to the militants. People's Democratic Party leader Mufti Mohammad Sayeed said a truce was essential for a solution to the Kashmir tangle. CPI(M) leader M.Y. Tarigami said the ceasefire should be permanent and must be extended beyond Ramzan. He said: 'Let the people of the State taste the fruits of peace. Democratic solutions could only evolve in peace when the right to dissent is given to everybody.' National Conference president Omar Abdullah has termed it important for tackling the humanitarian problems afflicting the people.
