Quick action force for N. Areas proposed

Gilgit : The Northern Areas Police have planned to set up a quick action force for coping with emergency situations in Gilgit City. This was announced by Northern Areas Police Chief Sarmad Saeed Khan while addressing a darbar of the Northern Areas Reserve Force on Tuesday. He said they were setting up barracks to facilitate the proposed quick force. Mr Khan said that the federal government had been fulfilling all the requirements of the police force and so far they had received 10 buses, 10 trucks, three water tankers and 21 pick-up vehicles and armoured vehicles for patrolling. He said that the deficiency of arms and ammunitions had been over and they were focusing on training of the police force on modern lines. He said to enhance the performance of intelligence branches educated youth had been inducted in the CIA and CID of the department. The IGP further disclosed that the policemen would be accorded all the benefits enjoyed by their counterparts in the four provinces of the country and they had successfully transformed the police into a professional force by curbing sectarian tendencies amidst its rank and file.
