Militant killed, 3 escape in Qazigund

Srinagar: Even as one militant got killed, three more of his group managed to escape in a joint operation of Police and security forces at Sesman village in Qazigund area of south Kashmir today. SP Kulgam, S P Pani, said that information regarding the movement and plans of some militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba to strike on a security forces convoy in Qazigund area had been pouring in from certain village close to Srinagar-Jammu national highway since Friday last. He said that working on this information, troops of Rashtriya Rifles 9th Bn with Police launched a major search operation last evening. In the morning today, searches were simultaneously conducted in about a dozen village. It was during this operation that troops learned about the presence of four militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba at the residential house of a mason, namely Ghulam Rasool Rishi S-o Mohammad Abdullah Rishi at village Sesman. While the troops were zeroing in on the target house, three militants managed to escape but fourth one got killed in an encounter in the open. He said that one AK-56 rifle and two grenades were recovered from the militant killed. He identified the militant as Abu Akash of Pakistan. Spokesman of Al-Mansoorin, Aamir Mir, confirmed that four militants of his organisation were planning to ambush a military convoy on the highway when troops swooped on their hideout at Sesman Danjan in the forenoon today. He said that three militants of the group came out safely and reached back to another hideout but the fourth one opted to fight and he got killed in a daylong gunbattle. He identified the militant killed as Abu Ukasha. A Defence spokesman insisted that one militant got killed and the security forces did not suffer any casualty. Meanwhile an official spokesman said that troops of RR 50 Bn and Police recovered 10 Kgs of RDX, one wireless set, four Chinese grenades, ten UBGL shells and a quantity of assorted ammunition in Zazbal forest area of Tral. He said that the militant hideout was destroyed. He said that Parimpora Police recovered a hand grenade from one Mohammad Yusuf Sofi of Tral, presently living in Shalteng in Srinagar outskirts.
