Two Hizb Militants Killed In J&K

New Delhi: Two Hizbul Mujahideen militants were killed and a hideout was busted in separate operations in Jammu and Kashmir, where insurgents also shot at and injured a woman since Sunday night. Two hardcore Hizbul Mujahideen militants - Mohammad Shafi Ganai and Ghulam Hassan Sheikh - were killed in an encounter with security forces at Sofi Gund village of Tral in Pulwama district on Monday, a police spokesman said. The encounter broke out when police assisted by security forces laid a cordon around the village following specific information about the presence of militants. Two AK assault rifles, five magazines, two hand grenades and some ammunition were recovered from the possession of the killed militants, he said adding the slain militants were active in Tral belt for the past several years and were wanted in a large number of militancy-related incidents. Police busted a militant hideout at Dull-Khakdhri Dhar in Gandoh area of Doda district on Sunday night. The search of the hideout led to the recovery of five blankets, 50 kgs rice, 40 kgs floor, ten biscuit packets, four kgs dry fruit and 15 packets of cigarette. In another incident, militants shot at and injured a widow - Malmuna Begum - outside her house at Chak-e-Kawoosa in Magam area of Badgam district on Sunday night. The injured woman was hospitalised, he said.
