Army colonel killed in Kashmir, two soldiers wounded

Srinagar: A colonel of the Indian Army was killed and two soldiers wounded in a gun battle between separatist guerrillas and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district Saturday afternoon. Police here said security forces had cordoned off Tilgam village near Pattan town in Baramulla didtrict, 32 km from here.'Following a specific tip-off, the guerrillas who were already hiding in the village started spraying bullets on the security forces,' said army spokesperson Colonel Hemant Juneja of the 15 corps here.'Colonel G.S. Sarna, the commanding officer of 29 Rashtriya Rifles succumbed to his injuries, after he was removed to the army's base hospital here. The colonel was wounded when the separatist guerrillas fired at the raiding party,' he added. Additional reinforcements have been rushed and the exchange of fire was on till the evening.
