Civilian shot, girl kidnapped in Valley

Srinagar: Unidentified gunmen fired upon a civilian and kidnapped a teenaged girl in north Kashmir. Informed sources said that unidentified gunmen today appeared at Wizar in Kreeri area of Baramulla district and they fired upon a youth, namely Khursheed Ahmed Sofi S-o Ghulam Ahmed Sofi, who was busy in trimming branches atop a tree. After the gunmen vanished, Sofi came down. Having sustained gunshot wound, he was rushed to Srinagar and admitted to SMHS Hospital for medical treatment. Sources said that unidentified persons barged into the house of one Abdul Hameed Mir S-o Ghulam Mohammad Mir at Behak Harveth Qaziabad in Kupwara district late last night and they kidnapped Mir's 16-year-old sister-in-law, Haseena D-o Khizar Mohammad Malik R-o Shanu Maqam, Handwara. Reports said that Haseena had been putting up at her brother-in-law Abdul Hameed Mir's and elder sister Raja's home since the latter's delivery last month. SP Handwara, Dr Haseeb Mughal, said that Police had taken cognizance and filed FIR No 9 of 2007 under sections 363, 376 and 511 RPC. He said that Army and SOG Handwara swung into action but found after a day of investigation that Haseena had either eloped wilfully or had been kidnapped against her will by 27-year-old Ghulam Mohiuddin Mir of Ashpora, Kralgund, who happened to be Haseena's another sister Muneera's husband. Muneera has passed away some time back. Residents, according to SP Handwara, believed that Mohiuddin had, of late, developed an affair with Haseena. He has also gone missing simulateously from his home last evening. Sources said that SIK sleuths arrested one Mohammad Ashraf Malik S-o Mohammad Sidiq Malik R-o Lari (Drang), Kangan. Officials described Malik as an active militant of Hizbul Mujahideen and claimed to have recovered a loaded pistol from his possession. Sources said that a possible tragedy was averted today when the troops of Rashtriya Rifles 57 Bn successfully diffused an Improvised Explosive Device planted under culvert on Sopore-Bandipora Road at Kullusa. The IED weighting about half-a-kg was found wrapped in a polythene bag. Meanwhile, according to official sources, one Farooq Ahmed, S-o Ghulam Rasool R-O Bewara fell down from an electric pole at Khush Roi Kalan, Sirigufwara, in Anantnag. He was immediately rushed to hospital but succumbed en route. Farooq was an employee of the electric department. Police has taken cognizance into the matter and proceeding u-s 174 CrPC has been initiated. One carpenter identified as Raghber Singh S-o Raten Singh of Charwan, Amritsar in Punjab, presently at Uri died under suspicious circumstances after returning from Gurudwara near Sang Bridge Uri. Police has initiated proceedings under section 174 CrPC and the cause of death is being ascertained. One Feroze Ahmed Malik s-o Gul Mohammed R-O Badasgam Anantnag attempted suicide by consuming some poisonous substance and has been referred to Srinagar for treatment. A Tata mini bus bearing No JK03-3375 collided with a passenger bus bearing No JK03-1695 on National Highway near Dawlatabad, Qazigund. Fifteen persons were injured in the accident who have been hospitalized. A motorcyclist was injured when his motorcycle bearing No JK03-3412 met with an accident at Saka Mohalla Ashmuqam in Anantnag. The motorcyclist identified as Firdous Ahmed Sheikh s-o Abdul Gani R-O Dachan Yaripora has been hospitalized and police has registered a case.
