Labourer killed, 3 injured

Srinagar: One labourer was killed and three others, including a Government official and a contractor were injured when unidentified gunmen opened fire in south Kashmir while militants killed a person and attacked the house of another with a hand grenade in the Valley today, official sources said. A police spokesman said unknown gunmen opened fire at Damhal Hanjipora village in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district this afternoon when labourers were constructing a culvert. He said a labourer Mohammad Ramzan was killed on the spot while three others were wounded. The wounded identified as —contractor Bashir Ahmad Wani, Mohammad Yousuf, Works Supervisor and Mohammad Abdullah were admitted to hospital in a critical condition. Two of the injured were referred to Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences at Soura. A massive hunt has been launched to nab the gunmen. Militants attacked the house of a promiment businessman in Sopore town, about 55 kms from here, in north Kashmir, lobbing a grenade at it, sources said. Militants hurled a grenade at the house of well-known businessman Inayatullah at Sadiq Colony at around 315 pm, they said. It exploded in the compound of the house without injuring anyone, they said. Two persons were killed in Pulwama and Anantnag districts today. Police recovered a bullet-riddled body of an unidentified person from Wahipora in Pulwama district, sources said. An elderly person was also found murdered near his house at Achoo in Anantnag district. Police identified the deceased as 60- year-old Noor-ud-din Chad, a farmer by profession. Meanwhile, some unidentified persons set ablaze a building of Government primary school at Lassidaban-Keller in Pulwama district, partially damaging the roof.
