Militant killed, two troopers wounded in Kashmir

Srinagar: An unidentified guerrilla was killed and two troopers were wounded in a gunfight in north Kashmir Tuesday, officials said.One militant, whose identity is yet to be established, was killed and two troopers of the 30 Rashtriya Rifles were wounded in a gun battle in north Kashmir's Drangusa Mawar area near Kupwara border, 90 km from here, said Lieutenant Colonel A.K. Mathur, spokesman of the army's 15th Corps. 'Searches are still continuing in the area and the operation against the militants is not over yet,' Mathur said.In a separate incident, guerrillas detonated a powerful landmine in the Eidgah area of the city late Monday. Though no one was injured in the blast, many windowpanes in the area were shattered.Police sources said the landmine could have been planted to target security forces in the area, but it went off without causing any damage.
