World Bank Team On Pre-appraisal Mission To J&K

Jammu: A World Bank team led by Daniel M Sellen and comprising Dr. T. C. Jain, Dhimant Baxi, Mohan Gopalakrishnan, Samik Dass, Dr. Mridula Singh, Ranjan Samntaray, Jackie Julian, Naseer Rana and Shivendra Kumar arrived here on pre-appraisal mission visit to J&K.The team would under take the task of finalizing Participatory Watershed Management Project (PWMP) in Jammu and Kashmir. World Bank team met Chief Secretary C. Phunsog and discussed with him various matters relating to the launching of project. Chief Secretary welcomed the World Bank and desired early launch of the Participatory Watershed Management project. He said that all help and support from government would be provided to the project. Chief of IWDP R. D. Tiwari also gave a detailed presentation of the project to the team of the project on the occasion which include project implementation manual, financial management manual, governance and accountability action plan, tribal development plan and other project documents. Mr. Daniel World Bank Task team leader (TTL) appreciated the progress made in the project preparations. TTL further informed that environment and social management framework (ESMF) report of J&K has been accepted by the World Bank headquarters at Washington DC and the ESMF report of J&K PWMP is available at World Bank's official website. World Bank team also call on Minister for Forests, Housing and Urban Development Qazi Mohammad Afzal, Minister for Finance, Planning, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Hameed Qarra and discussed the various issues relating to launching of the PWMP in J&K. Mr. Qazi who is also Chairman of IWDP Steering Committee impressed upon the team that it is a project dedicated to the poor people and it must benefit them on the ground. Mr. Karra dwelt upon the planning and financial components of the project and desired early launch of the project in J&K. He has given instructions to IWDP management to accomplish all the tasks relevant to pre- appraisal mission. Commissioner Secretary Finance B. B. Vyas, Forest Commissioner Atal Dullo, Vigilance Commissioner Dr. Ashok Bhan and other senior officers also attended the meeting.
