Jammu: People's Democratic Party (PDP) patriarch, Ms Mehbooba Mufti while reiterating the Party's demand for replacement of security forces by the local police for internal security and revocation of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), said the incidents involving loss of innocent lives only underscores the urgency to accept these proposals to rebuild the people's confidence in the system. In a statement issued here, today, she said while there was decrease in militancy related incidents in the state, the killings were on increase which is unacceptable. She said that the people of J&K were fed up of violence of all kinds and it is high time that practical measures as demanded by her Party be taken without loss of time. The public opinion in the state, she said would no more be satisfied by any half hearted measures like holding of enquiries or threat of disciplinary action against the violators of law. This is evident from the daily and numerous processions and demonstrations over such incidents all over the state. Ms Mufti said it is obvious that the recent enquiries by the Government and framing of cases against those involved in some staged killings have failed to serve as a deterrent. The continued bloodshed of innocents has the potential of undoing all the gains of past years in rebuilding the faith of citizens of J&K in Indian democratic system, she added. Strongly condemning the killing of two civilians allegedly by the security forces at Aripal in Tral yesterday, she said it is time for Central Government to respond to the situation caused by frequent recurrence of such unfortunate incidents.
