Congress leader shot dead in Baramulla

Srinagar: Militants shot dead a senior Congress leader Jan Mohammad Kakroo on Sunday as he was coming out of a shrine in Baramulla after offering prayers on the eve of Eid-e-Milad. Police sources told The Hindu that Mr. Kakroo, working district president of the Congress, was fired at from point blank range as he was coming out of the Khwaja Sahib shrine and he died instantly. Close associate His bodyguard Sonaullah suffered injuries. The militants escaped. Mr. Kakroo, a prominent businessman, was a former president of the Chamber of Industries. The 55-year-old leader was a close associate of senior vice-president of Congress Abdul Gani Vakil and played a vital role in revitalising the industry in Kashmir.
