Hizb 'Bn Commdr' killed in Kokernag

Srinagar: While both the holed up militants have escaped amid a fierce gunfight at Chitti Bandi in Bandipore, official sources today said that a top-wanted 'Battalion Commander' of Hizbul Mujahideen died in two gunbattles in south Kashmir. Informed official sources said that Police and security forces conducted a cordon-and-search operation at Khullar Sof-Shali village in Kokernag on the basis of a specific information. During the operation, an encounter took place in which Hizbul Mujahideen 'Bn Commander' Mohammad Hussain Rishi alias Umair S-o Mohammad Ahsan Rishi R-o Sof-Shali got killed. Officials described Rishi as a category 'A' militant and claimed that a number of criminal cases, registered with different Police Stations, had been solved with his death. In another incident, 6-RR laid an ambush at Bangergund Bridge, under the jurisdiction of P-S Vilgam. On noticing some suspicious movement, the troops opened fire during which one person identified as Abdul Qayoom Khan, s-o Hakim Khan, R- o Dolipora Trehgam, received a bullet in his soldier and was injured. The injured was shifted to Army hospital where he is being provided treatment. One horse also got killed and another was injured in this incident. Reports from north Kashmir said that both the holed up militants at the house of one Mohammad Ramzan alias Nika Pir managed to escape amid fierce gunbattle at Chitti Bandi in Bandipore area late last night. Police and troops have destroyed half a dozen residential structures in the village but failed to arrest or kill the militants.
