6 injured in grenade attack on CRPF

Srinagar: At least six people were injured in a grenade blast in the downtown city today, official sources said. They said militants hurled a hand grenade at a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) roadside bunker at Naidkadal in the downtown city at 1150 hours. However, it missed the intended target and exploded on the roadside, causing injuries to six pedestrians. The injured have been admitted to hospital, the sources said. No militant outfit has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, they said. Meanwhile, troops today averted a major tragedy when they detected and defused a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) fitted inside a transistor in north Kashmir. A police spokesman said militants had planted a transistor fitted with the IED at Watlab on the Sopore-Bandipora road to target security forces. However, a Road Opening Party (ROP) of 15 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) immediately sealed the area and stopped traffic from both sides. Later, a bomb disposal squad was summoned and the IED was defused without causing any damage, he said adding had it not been detected and defused, it would have caused much damage to life and property. The police have registered a case and launched a manhunt to nab the militants responsible for planting the IED. Meanwhile, a bus bearing registration number JKE-8977, hit a scooter at Buchoo under the jurisdiction of Police Station Kokernag. The scooterist namely Gh. Nabi Ganie, son of Ahsan Ganie of Akingam and his co-rider Mohd Abass Ganie son of Ab. Ahad of Gaybom were injured in this incident . The injured were hospitalized where Gh. Nabi Ganie succumbed to his injuries. A truck bearing registration number JK03-0462 hit a Maruti car bearing registration number DL4CN-1387 at Lethpora. Two Police men identified as car driver Fayaz Ahmad Mir (ASI-M), son of Ab. Gani resident of Batagund Tral and HC Bashir Ahmad, son of Gh. Rasool resident of Kharipora Tral were injured in this accident. The injured have been hospitalized. A matador bearing registration number JK03A-1365 collided with a load carrier bearing registration number JK03A-5323 at Siligam falling under the jurisdiction of Police Station Ashmuqam. Fourteen passengers who had boarded the Matador were injured and have been hospitalized. Meanwhile, a railway employee Sardar Singh, son of Dana Singh, of Bossana Punjab died due to electric shock at Bhoomi Development Railway project, Gulbagh Tunnel, in district Kulgam.
