Srinagar: A militant of Harkat-ul-Mujahideen and a civilian were killed while another civilian was rescued by Army, police and CRPF in an encounter at Judi Bagda forests, about 15 kms from Gandoh in Doda district this morning. SSP Doda Manohar Singh said militants kidnapped two civilians from village Kundeli Chilli in Gandoh from their houses last night. They have been identified as Mohd Ayub, 35, son of Mohd Sabir Khan and Munwar Din, 50, son of Ghulam Mohd Khan, both residents of Kundeli Chilli. After getting an information from the civilians regarding kidnapping of civilians, Army, police and CRPF launched a joint search operation in Judi Bagda forest area. After about two hours of searches, the militants were intercepted in a small forest this morning where they had held both civilians captive. As an exchange of firing started between the two sides, one of the civilian, Mohd Ayub tried to escape from the captivity, taking advantage of the situation. He was shot dead by the militants. After about two hours of gun-fighting, security personnel eliminated one militant and succeeded in rescuing another civilian, Munwar Din safely. Security forces didnít suffer any casualties in the operation. At least two militants managed to escape during the cross- firing, sources said. Slain militant has been identified as Mohd Saif son of Noor Mohd, a resident of Judi Chilli, an activist of Harkat-ul- Mujahideen. From his possession, security forces recovered one 7.62mm rifle SLR, two magazines with four rounds, two Chinese hand grenades, 10 detonators and one pouch. Security forces and police continued searches to trap two militants who escaped from the scene of encounter. Police party in the operation was led by Inspector Chanchal Singh. Sources said reasons behind kidnapping of two civilians by the militants couldnít be ascertained immediately. It was, however, believed that the ultras kidnapped them on the suspicion of being security forces informers. Body of the civilian, who was gunned down by the militants, has been handed over to his family after post-mortem. Another search operation was conducted by 156 Territorial Army (TA) jawans at Kumar Ka Ban, about five kms from Mahore in Reasi district this morning. During searches, one Under Barrel Grenade Launcher (UBGL) with three grenades were recovered. No arrest was made during the searches.
