HM commander killed in Doda

Doda: A top militant of Hizbul Mujahideen was gunned down by police and Army in an encounter at Qila Mohalla in Bhadarwah area of Doda district this evening while security forces destroyed a hide-out of the militants at Drabshala in Kishtwar. SSP Doda Manohar Singh said a joint team of Bhadarwah police, STF Bhadarwah and Army launched a search operation at Qila Mohalla on the outskirts of Bhadarwah town this afternoon after developing a specific information about the presence of two militants in a hide-out. A ‘section commander’ of Hizbul Mujahideen Irshad Khan alias Firdous alias Naseer Baluch son of Abdul Rashid Wani R-o Sangli was killed in the operation while his associates managed to escape. Army or police didn’t suffer any casualties in the operation that lasted two hours. One Under Barrel Grenade Launcher (UBGL) with two grenades and two Chinese hand grenades were recovered from the scene of encounter. An Ak rifle of Irshad Khan was taken away by his fleeing associate, sources said. Owner of the house, where the militants had taken shelter, was absconding, they said, adding efforts were on to arrest him. Troops destroyed a hide-out of the militants at Richon in Drabshala area of Kishtwar and recovered two IEDs, half kg gelatin, six detonators, two meters safety fuse, one Motorola walkie-talkie, five UBGL grenades, one RPG shell, one 12 bore single rifle, 18 AK rounds, one SLR magazine, three rounds of .303, two Chinese hand grenades and 15 kg ration. No arrests were made from the hide-out, sources said.
