Dam resettlement to complete on time

Mirpur: AJK Minister for Mangla Dam Affairs, Chaudhry Muhammad Yousaf, has assured the dam affectees that the process of rehabilitation is being carried out and would be completed on time. Addressing a meeting of senior officials of Mangla Dam Resettlement Organisation and representatives of displaced people here on Tuesday, the minister said that the government was determined to protect the rights of people and rehabilitation would be completed within stipulated timeframe in line with an agreement reached between AJK government and Water and Power Development Authority. The minister said that timely resettlement of all affectees of the Mangla dam raising project was the foremost priority of the government. All genuine demands of the displaced would be met and each part of the accord would be implemented. Yousaf said that Mangla dam affectees gave great sacrifices for economic progress and prosperity of the country, adding that the resettlement organisation was actively engaged to ensure timely rehabilitation of the displaced people. The minister asked the resettlement body to accelerate development work on the under-construction New Mirpur Garden City and four small model towns in Siakh, Islamgarh, Chakswari and Dadayal for the rehabilitation of people. He said that the Mangla dam raising project would not only open new vistas of economic progress, but would also prove to be the gateway for prosperity of the people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
