Seven With Suspected Links To Militants Held In Kashmir

Srinagar: Seven people, including the son of a National Conference leader, have been arrested here for suspected militant links, officials said yesterday. Acting on a tip-off, police raided a hotel in Pacca Danga area of the city on Thursday night and arrested the seven and seized some documents from them, they said. The group, suspected to have militant links, was on its way from Mendhar border town of Poonch district to Kashmir's Charar-e-Sharief town, they said. The arrested were identified as Riyaz Ahmed, Masood Ahmed, Zafar Iqbal, Mohammad Shabir, Khaliq Hussain, Mohammad Taj and Asif Bashir, hailing from Balola and Salora villages of Mendhar. Riyaz is the son of a National Conference leader, police said. Police are also collecting data of conversation from the mobile phones seized from their possession. All the arrested persons have been handed over to the joint interrogation cell comprising officials of RAW, Intelligence Bureau and state police, they said. Police have also sent teams to Kashmir valley on the details provided by them during preliminary interrogation.
