New Delhi: Home minister Shivraj Patil's virtual clean chit to Pakistan on infiltration in J&K contradicts defence minister A K Antony's recent observation. 'The Army is alert. It's always prepared to meet any eventuality,' Antony had said. The Army killed eight terrorists in one day crossing over recently. Infiltration had seen a sharp rise in April when some 82 attempts were made more than thrice the number of attempts in the same month last year. Sixty-four attempts were made in May about the same as last year with nine of the intruders being killed. Overall, 41 terrorists were killed in the state during the month, 38 of them by the Army. Till June 24, a total of 40 terrorists have been killed. But it is also acknowledged that many of them might have got past the security patrols.
