Pratibha Patil In Srinagar, Meets Legislators On Campaign Trail7 July 2007 The Indian Express
Srinagar: Legislators of Jammu and Kashmir's ruling coalition on Saturday assured full support to UPA presidential candidate Pratibha Patil who was in Srinagar to garner support for her candidature. Patil told legislators that during her 50 years of public life she had faced several challenges and tirelessly worked for rural development and women empowerment. 'Despite efforts to tarnish my image, I will discharge my responsibilities with commitment and continue to serve the country with resolve and humility,' she said. Patil was accompanied by All India Congress Committee spokesperson Jayanti Natrajan, Minister of State in PMO Prithviraj Chauhan and Congress Election Observer Ashwani Sikri. Patil told the J-K legislators that her election as the first woman President of India would be a historic event. 'Our country is developing in every field and gains should reach the poor, downtrodden, minorities, women and children,' she said.
