Srinagar: Yet another infiltration bid was foiled today when Army troops gunned down four heavily armed foreign militants tasked to strike terror and disrupt upcoming Independence Day celebrations along the Line of Control in Uri sector. Elsewhere in the Kashmir valley, two ultras were killed in separate gunbattles in Kupwara and Baramulla districts, while the family members of an active Hizbul Mujahideen militant escaped unhurt in a grenade attack. A defence spokesman said that four foreign infiltrators were confronted by the troops at Mindi Gali, one km inside the LoC, in Rampur area of Uri sector in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district in the wee hours today and a fierce gunbattle ensued resulting in their elimination. He said a huge cache of arms and ammunition including four AK 47 rifles, four pistols, one Under Barrel Grenade Launcher (UBGL) with 40 grenades, 77 hand grenades, 50 detonators, 19 gelatin sticks, six IED components and three wireless sets were recovered from the slain infiltrators. All the four heavily equipped foreign militants were trained across the border and were tasked to strike terror and disrupt Independence Day celebrations in the Valley by indiscriminate IED blasts, the spokesman said. He said the swift operation by the Army has further weakened the morale of militants. Ever since opening of mountain passes after melting snow and commencement of infiltration, 45 militants have been gunned down on LoC while trying to infiltrate into Kashmir. The spokesman said troops guarding the LoC are already on high alert as there are reports about the presence of large number of militants in the launching pads near the border. He said besides foot and night patrolling along the five-km border belt, troops have plugged all routes to foil any infiltration bid by the militants. In another operation, the spokesman said troops of six Grenadiers killed an unidentified militant at Nikri Dudi in Gujardur area of Kupwara district. The encounter broke out when security forces cordoned off the area on a specific information about presence of militants, the spokesman said. Another encounter broke out between militants and security forces at Sumblar Forest in Bandipora district this morning, the spokesman said, adding an unidentified militant was killed during the operation. He said that unidentified gunmen fired two rifle grenades towards the house of an active Hizbul Mujahideen militant Manzoor Ahmad Lone at Zangam village of Pattan on Srinagar- Baramulla National Highway, in the wee hours today. While one of the grenades exploded in the compound of the house, another remained unexploded and was subsequently defused by the experts, the spokesman said adding all the family members of the militant escaped unhurt in the attack. He said that it was not immediately known who carried out the grenade attack. The spokesman said that security forces busted a militant hideout in Pulwama district and recovered huge cache of arms. Acting on a tip-off, troops of Rashtriya Rifles along with local police raided Tral area this morning and recovered six hand-grenades and large ammunition.
