LeT Militant, Ex-ultra Shot Dead

Ramban: A Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militant and a surrendered ultra were killed while a militant was arrested in three separate incidents across Banihal tehsil of this district overnight. Official sources said Army and police launched a search operation at village Sangan in Banihal last night after developing an information that two top militants of LeT outfit had taken shelter in a dhok while changing their area of operation. Their dhok was surrounded and they were asked to surrender. However, both the militants opened firing which was retaliated by the security personnel. Exchange of firing between the two sides continued for more than two hours. In the gun- fighting, one militant was killed while his associate escaped to a surrounding dense forest taking cover of darkness. Security forces or police didn't suffer any casualties in the operation. Slain militant has been identified as Mohd Shaffi son of Ghulam Mohd, a resident of Akharan, Banihal. From his possession, security personnel recovered one AK rifle, three magazines, 70 rounds and three grenades. Security forces continued searches for the absconding militant. Two militants last night struck in the house of a surrendered militant Mohd Yaseen Pachu son of Abdul Samad Pachu at village Amma Trigam in Banihal and kidnapped him. They took Pachu to an adjoining field, slit his throat and escaped. Body of Pachu was recovered from the field by local people and police and sent for post-mortem. Searches have been launched to apprehend the militants involved in the killing. Sources said two Hizbul Mujahideen ultras, with whom Pachu had worked for about four years, were suspected to be behind the killing. Pachu had surrendered before security forces and police sometime back along with arms and ammunition. After his release, he had started staying in his house. Army and police apprehended a suspected militant from village Siran Lablotha in Banihal tehsil and recovered two hand grenades and one wireless set from his possession. Arrested militant has been identified as Mohd Shaffi, a local of Lablotha. He has been sent for questioning. Our Rajouri correspondent adds: Militants entered into the house of a Village Defence Committee (VDC) member Nain Singh son of Gopal Singh at village Sadha in Kalakote tehsil of Rajouri district last night and snatched his .303 rifle and 100 rounds allotted to him by police in his capacity as a VDC member. Two militants, suspected to be locals, escaped after the snatching. Police was questioning the VDC member.
