Gilgit: Thousands of protestors led by Ghizer District Council Chairman Dr Alimadad Sher staged a protest against local police on Wednesday for allegedly torturing four teenagers in Puniyal tehsils Singal village, 56 km west of Gilgit. The protestors said that local police detained the teens on false charges of theft and kept them in illegal confinement. They accused the police of severely torturing the teens by making them stand throughout the night and other forms of physical torture. The protestors said the local police barged into houses of the detained teenagers without any permission and without a magistrate with them, which was a violation of their privacy. The Puniyal assistant commissioner assured the protestors that an inquiry would be conducted into the incident and their demands would be fulfilled. The protestors gathered from Goherabad to Gahkuch and disrupted traffic between Ghizer and Gilgit for many hours.
