Civilian Snatches Ultra's Weapon

Jammu: A civilian snatched a weapon from a Hizbul Mujahideen commander in Marmat area while another militant surrendered before Rashtriya Rifles in Bhadarwah tehsil of Doda district today. Reports said a Hizbul Mujahideen 'deputy district commander' Mohd Yousuf son of Ali Mohd Jaral, a resident of Mangota, Marmat intercepted a civilian Shadi Lal son of Ram Lal R-o Shelly Behota in Marmat area of Doda this morning. The militant tried to fire shots on the civilian with a pistol from point blank range in a bid to kill him. However, displaying a rare act of bravery, the civilian grappled with the ultra and snatched his pistol besides a bag. Finding himself trapped, the militant managed to escape. The civilian later informed police and handed over a pistol snatched from the militant along with a bag containing one hand grenade and one wireless set. The civilian's name is being recommended for an award, reports said. A Hizbul Mujahideen fresh recruit Mukhtiar Ahmed, 17, today surrendered before 26 Rashtriya Rifles at Bhadarwah in Doda district. He handed over one AK-47 rifle and two magazines at the time of surrender.
