Jammu: The crack of rifle shots shattered the eerie calm at Sunjuwan Firing Range when each bullet rode with a fierce intensity, aptly propelled by grit and fortitude. This splended spectacle was of a legion of brave persons hailing from border villages of Nandpur, Dablehar and R S Pura and honing their dexterity in firing to serve as effective counter-terrorism Village Defence Committee (VDC) members. The committed and motivated youth have taken up arms to fight the terrorists and their atrocities and Sunjuwan Brigade took the responsibility to resharpen their skills by putting them through a refresher capsule course followed by a firing competition. Talking to media-persons on the occasion, Sunjuwan Brigade Commander Brig H S Brar said that dearth of ammunition and firing ranges often deprive these highly motivated VDC members of valuable practice. The capsule course and competition was an apt opportunity for them to come forward and reinstate faith in their own weapons, he said, adding a number of VDC members were eager to carry out weapon training and firing so as to ward off threat to their kith and kin. He said that at this juncture, the VDC members as matured citizens of nation must assume responsibility of guarding themselves and their villages from the callous acts of the terrorists.
