Two Directorates For Welfare Of Gujjars, Bakerwals In J-K

Srinagar: Two separate directorates in Jammu and Kashmir divisions will be created for the welfare of Gujjar and Bakerwal communities, Minister of State for Higher Education Aijaz Ahmad Khan said today. Interacting with various deputations of the community during his visit to Ashmuqam and Chandanwari in Anantnag district, Khan said the government is paying added attention to uplift these communities and provide them equal chances of development. Khan visited Ashmuqum, housing the famous shrine of Sufi saint Hazrat Zainuddin Sahib and Chandanwari, the first halting station enroute to the holy cave shrine of Amarnath in south Kashmir Himalayas, to take stock of developmental works in these areas. He said a recreation park would be constructed on the land under soil conservation department at Ashmuqum. The representatives of Gujjar and Bakerwal communities who met Khan highlighted their demands which included safe drinking water, electricity, healthcare and road connectivity.
