JeM Militant Killed, 2 HM Top Comdrs Among 5 Arrested

Srinagar: Security forces killed a militant of Pakistan based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) outfit and arrested five ultras including two top commanders of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) in Kashmir valley where ultras made an abortive attempt on CRPF patrol party.An official spokesman said that troops of 2 Para and Special Operation Group (SOG) of State Police conducted a joint operation at Balkul Gali Top last night following a tip off about the presence of militants there. During the operation an encounter took place in which a JeM militant Ali Raja, a resident of Pakistan, was killed. One AK rifle, three magazines and 45 rounds of ammunition were recovered from the slain militant. The spokesman said that in a joint operation, Srinagar Police with the assistance of Baramulla Police arrested two top commanders of HM outfit. The arrested commanders have been identified as Nazir Ahmed Pathan code Umar Gul, son of Mohammad Yousaf, son of Hadiwala, Gool and Mohammed Shafi Kasana code Zahid, son of Mohammed Hashmat of Sumbad Sangaldan Ramban. They were active in Gool area of Jammu division since last 10 years and had recently shifted their base to Kashmir and were planning to step up subversive activities in Kashmir valley, the spokesman said, adding Mohammed Shafi Kasana was an associate of notorious militant Biloo Gujjar and was wanted in many cases of violence. Another two HM militants were arrested from Rajwar area in Handwara and some arms and ammunition were recovered from their possession. SP Handwara Dr Haseeb Mughal said that on a specific information regarding presence of some militants in Rajwar area, special nakas were laid and random checking was conducted by Handwara Police. During checking at Rajwar Bus Stand, police arrested two HM militants who have been identified as Javaid Ahmed Mir, son of Shahzad Ahmed of Rajpora Zachaldara and Shakeel Ahmed Mir, son of Habibullah Mir of Harie Kupwara. One pistol, eight pistol rounds and two UBGL grenades concealed in juice packs were recovered from their possession. According to SSP Kupwara, a Pakistan trained militant identified as Hilal Ahmed Poto alias Sohail, son of Abdul Khaliq Poto of Gulshan Abad Sopore was arrested by Lalpora Police. He said that one Chinese pistol, one magazine, eight pistol rounds and a satellite phone were recovered from his possession. Meanwhile, militants made an abortive attempt to target a patrolling party of CRPF with a grenade on Srinagar- Gulmarg road this afternoon. The ultras hurled a grenade towards the personnel of 176th Battalion CRPF, who were patrolling Kunzar area, 35 kms from here. However, the grenade failed to explode and was later removed by the Bomb Disposal Squad. Traffic on the road was briefly suspended as a precautionary measure.
